Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Platform Engineer, supporting TOS II, at Arnold Air Force Base, TN. As a Sr. Platform Engineer, you will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for design, support and maintenance of OpenShift, Linux Systems and Peripherals for the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

 

Open to internal and external candidates. The selected candidate for this requisition may be required to occasionally (e.g. application upgrades) work outside normal business hours.

 

Job Summary

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) is the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee.  AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization, and an important national resource.

 

AEDC’s mission is to conduct developmental tests and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, and ground and flight tests.  Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.

 

BNH currently has an exciting career opportunity available for a Sr. Platform Engineer to join our team at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee.

 

 

Job Duties:

  • Install, configure, administer, maintain, and upgrade Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform clusters.
  • Manage OpenShift cluster lifecycle activities, including version upgrades, patching, backup and recovery, capacity planning, and configuration management.
  • Configure and troubleshoot core platform services, including cluster networking, ingress, DNS, certificates, identity and access management, role-based access control, storage integration, and security controls.
  • Monitor cluster health, performance, capacity, availability, and resource utilization; identify trends and implement corrective or preventive actions.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving OpenShift, Kubernetes, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, containerized workloads, networking, storage, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Implement and maintain platform automation using tools such as Ansible, GitOps, Helm, scripting, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve deployment patterns, operational runbooks, standard operating procedures, architecture documentation, and knowledge articles.
  • Apply system security configurations, vulnerability remediation, hardening, patching, and configuration baselines in accordance with applicable program and organizational requirements.
  • Apply, validate, document, and remediate Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG)
  • Partner with application, cybersecurity, network, storage, and infrastructure teams to onboard workloads and resolve cross-functional technical issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to less-experienced administrators and engineers.
  • Participate in maintenance windows and provide after-hours support for critical infrastructure incidents when required.
  • Research emerging information-system technologies and recommend improvements that increase platform reliability, security, automation, or customer usability.
  • Provide professional technical support to AEDC customers, teammates, and partner contractors.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering with five (5) years of professional experience in platform engineering, systems engineering, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure operations.  
  • In lieu of bachelor’s degree 9 years of experience similar to the above.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance and maintain authorized user access to the AEDC local area network.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to federal government contract compliance requirements and the necessity to access secure federal databases and networks on Arnold Air Force Base.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Direct experience installing, upgrading, and operating Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform in a production environment.
  • Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration, Red Hat Certified System Administrator, Red Hat Certified Engineer, or comparable Kubernetes/OpenShift certification.
  • Experience operating OpenShift in restricted, disconnected, or highly regulated DoD environments.
  • Experience with container networking, software-defined networking, ingress, load balancing, DNS, certificates, and identity services.
  • Experience integrating OpenShift with enterprise storage platforms, including NetApp ONTAP, NFS, persistent volumes, and storage classes.
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring, logging, and alerting tools, such as SolarWinds, Splunk, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience with vulnerability management, security hardening, ACAS, Risk Management Framework activities, and security documentation.
  • Experience implementing and assessing DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), including use of automated compliance tools, exception documentation, and remediation tracking.
  • Experience with VMware, Active Directory, Veeam, and enterprise backup/recovery processes.
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing or test-and-evaluation environments.
  • Experience supporting Linux, and Windows server environments.

L08: $100,000 - $132,000; L09: $112,000 - $149,500 / year at Arnold Air Force Base, TN.
