Overview

 

Open to External candidates. Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical or Aerospace Systems Engineer, supporting TOS II, at Tunnel 9 in Silver Spring, MD. The Systems Engineer will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining, as well as supporting tests the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

 

Job Summary

 

Systems Engineers provide engineering functions to support hypersonic wind-tunnel testing at Tunnel 9. The candidate will take ownership of major systems; coordinate facility and equipment improvement projects; follow project lifecycle (planning, budgeting, schedule, execution); perform mechanical design of tunnel components and interface hardware; develop many design drawing packages; develop/review analysis for thermo-mechanical structural and stress analysis reports for components in the wind tunnel; and develop improvements to tunnel performance and maintainability.

Job Duties:

  • Own assigned systems across their full lifecycle, including configuration control, reliability, maintainability, upgrades, and end-of-life planning.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute facility and equipment improvement projects, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, procurement support, installation, testing, and closeout.
  • Develop mechanical designs for components, tooling, fixtures, interface hardware, and modifications needed to support test operations.
  • Produce, review, and maintain engineering drawing packages, models, bills of material, and release documentation in accordance with configuration-management requirements.
  • Perform or review thermo-mechanical, structural, and stress analyses to verify component suitability for wind-tunnel operating environments.
  • Coordinate with operations, technicians, safety, instrumentation, controls, maintenance, and test customers to ensure systems are ready and test requirements are met.
  • Identify and implement improvements to tunnel performance, availability, operability, and maintainability based on test experience, data, and failure trends.
  • Develop technical scopes of work and support vendor/manufacturer engagement for repairs, fabrication, and procured equipment.
  • Ensure engineering changes, maintenance actions, and temporary modifications are documented, reviewed, approved, and communicated appropriately.
  • Review test requests and facility impacts to determine system readiness, constraints, risks, and required modifications or support.
  • Communicate clearly and utilize various methods of communication.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of professional mechanical or aerospace engineering experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and the AEDC local area network.
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Hands on mechanical design, maintenance, or operations experience acquired through previous employment, education, or internship
  • Experience using PTC Creo CAD software
  • Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA), especially using Ansys software

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount BNH is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time jobs will be adjusted based upon the number of hours agreed to work at location Tennessee: Arnold Air Force, TN. 

 

M07: $87,000 - $119,500, M08: $107,200 - $147,300/ year at White Oak, MD.
