Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Facility Modeling & Analysis Engineer, supporting TOS II, at AEDC in Arnold AFB, TN. The engineer will be working as a member of the Engineering Solutions branch responsible for supporting the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts. The Engineering Solutions branch performs cutting edge technology development work in support of the National Defense Strategy.

Job Summary

Facility analysis and system modeling engineers provide tools to assess concepts, analyze expected performance, trouble shoot problems with ground test infrastructure systems used in the execution of ground testing of air and space vehicles at the AEDC.  They evaluate, select, and apply standard and custom engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, at times using independent judgement in making adaptations and modifications. They perform work which involves the preparation, interpretation, or review of calculations, specifications, plans, and investigations, develop and apply computational and hardware-in-the-loop systems models.

 

The successful candidate will be highly organized, have effective verbal and written communication skills, be able to work with discretion and confidentiality, proven time management skills, be proactive, and be willing to continually learn new duties and skills.

             

Job Duties:

  • Support execution of technology development tasks for Facility Modeling solutions, including development of Matlab/Simulink physics-based models of AEDC test facilities and test articles.
  • Support any Mission Execution area by evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform work which involves the preparation, interpretation, or review of multi-disciplined computations and hardware-in-the-loop systems using a first principles approach. Add computational complexity as deemed necessary by work to be performed.
  • Apply engineering tools to support capital improvement and maintenance projects.
  • Analyze and identify deficiencies in existing system and component level simulations; formulate, implement, and validate improvements to overcome those deficiencies.
  • Develop new systems and component level simulations and expand capabilities of existing simulations to meet future requirements.
  • Develop and validate new computational approaches in the areas of fluid modeling, thermal modeling, numerical algorithms, and code-processing.
  • Draft, review, and present results in a written and / or visual format to both technical-detailed and high-level audiences.
  • Implement system level models into hardware-in-the-loop architecture; monitor and troubleshoot communication, data-transfer, and feedback-loops between simulation and other components.
  • Develop and maintain positive, open relationships with AEDC counterparts and with FM&A technology development customers.
  • Engage with colleagues as required to push for technological advances, facility improvements, advanced diagnostics, and complex problem solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • S. degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related scientific discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of at least 2 years’ applicable post degree experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in ME, AE, or EE with 3 years’ experience doing computational development and analysis.
  • Education in fundamental engineering and science, and advanced knowledge of mathematics, algorithms and computer languages.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of general engineering principles, including basic knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and multidisciplinary modeling and the application of this knowledge to engineering problems.
  • Familiarity with one or more AEDC facilities.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink product suite.
  • Experience with PLC-based control systems.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of developing computational engineering methods and application of modeling & simulation tools to engineering problems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with employees, clients, and customers.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount BNH is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time jobs will be adjusted based upon the number of hours agreed to work at location Tennessee: Arnold Air Force, TN.
